Batelco Gunners United scored a 4-0 win against Al Ahlam to emerge as group winners and advance into the quarter-final of the 5th Nasser bin Hamad Ramadan Sports Tournament “Nasser 12”.
Al Fakhar largely benefitted from the result as they also qualified for the next round as runners-up of Group 2 despite settling for a 1-1 draw against last-placed Tylos.
Al Fakhar finished their group assignments on four points.
Batelco Gunners United, who won three games in as many matches, began their rampage on the half-hour mark with a goal from Sayed Hussain Radhi and Abdullah Al Maliki doubled their lead three minutes into the second half.
Abdullah Al Hashash made it 3-0 for Batelco Gunners United by finiding his target in the 74th minute. Mohammed Al Sindi completed the drubbing for Batelco Gunners United seven minutes from time.
Batelco Gunners United will face Suqoor Al Bahrain in the last-8 stage, while Al Fakhar will play Victorious.
Talal Rabea scored the equaliser for Tylos after Ibrahim Al Qassab had given Al Fakhar the early lead.
The group stage will conclude today with two games taking place at Khalifa Sports City stadium in Group 4.
Al Fursan will play Al Nawayef at 9pm, while Al Saqr Al Abyadh will clash with Jurnas at 11.15pm.
Al Saqr Al Abyadh have already qualified for the quarter-final after collecting six points from two wins, while Al Fursan and Al Nawayef will battle it out for the last spot in the next stage.
Meanwhile, Sports Consultant Advisor to His Majesty the King for Youth and Sport Affairs Saleh Isa bin Hindi hailed the tournament as one of the most important sport events in Bahrain.
He highlighted the big role the tournament is playing, stating that it reflects the huge care given by Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, representative of HM the King for Charity Works and Youth Affairs and president of the Supreme Council of Youth and Sports, to the youth and sports.
He said the tournament is an ideal opportunity for young talents to showcase their abilities in order for them to be discovered and sent to national clubs.
Bin Hindi also praised the marketing and promotional efforts being made in this prestigious event.
“The tournament produced many sports cadres and talents and this adds to the benefits Bahrain has harvested from this tournament,” he said.
