Al Najma defeated Ittihad of Syria 2-1 in Group ‘B’ of the Asia AFC Football Cup held last night at Bahrain National Stadium in Riffa.
This was the last game for the teams in the group stage, as they lost the chance of qualifying for the next round of the competition. Only the top teams are eligible to qualify for the next round.
Al Najma finished in third place in the group with seven points.
Their goals came from Abdul Hussain in the 13th minute and Ali Madan in the 36th minute, as they led 2-0 by half time.
The visitors managed to score only one goal in the second half through Ali Al Shaban.
In another match of the same group, Al Jazira of Jordan qualified for the next round after defeating Kuwait Club 2-1 in a match held in Kuwait.
Al Jazira topped the group with 16 points, while Kuwait remained in second place with 10 points.
