Al Hidd held Riffa to a 3-3 draw in Group ‘A’ to qualify for the semi-final of the Bahrain Elite Football Cup competition held at Bahrain National Stadium in Riffa last night.
In a Group ‘B’ match held at Muharraq Club Stadium, Manama defeated East Riffa 2-1.
With the results, Group ‘A’ winners Muharraq will take on Group ‘B’ runners-up East Riffa, while Group ‘B’ winners Manama will take on Group ‘A’ runners-up Al Hidd in the semi-final.
Al Hidd, who scored two goals in the second half to seal the outcome, came into the game needing at least a draw to qualify for the semi-final round, along with leaders Muharraq who have four points.
Al Hidd finished in second place with two points, while Riffa needed a win to qualify as group’s runners-up, but they remained third with one point.
Lead
Riffa led the first half, 3-1, after scoring two goals in the first 20 minutes.
The first goal came in the 14th minute through Emanuel, while the second came through a penalty kick by Mahdi Abdul-Jabbar.
Al Hidd reduced the margin to 2-1 in the 27th minute through Isa Ghaleb, but Riffa scored in the 41st minute through Adnan Fawaz for a 3-1 lead.
Al Hidd found their target in the 60th minute through a penalty kick scored by Mohammed Abdulwahab.
Ahmed Merza scored the perfectly-executed equaliser in the 71st minute for Al Hidd.
Both Manama and East Riffa have already secured a place in the semi-final before their match which was to decide the group winners and runners-up.
Manama’s goals came from Isa Jehad in the 33rd minute and Brazilian Thiago in the 87th minute, while East Riffa’s goal was scored by Mohammed Abdulla in the 25th minute.
