Batelco Gunners United edged out debutant Winning 1-0 in the final to capture the title in the 5th Nasser bin Hamad Ramadan Sports Tournament “Nasser 12”.
After a failed campaign last year, Batelco emerged victorious this time after Miladen completed Mohammed Al Sindi’s perfect assist with a brilliant goal to break the deadlock and seal their second title in this prestigious event.
Winning came into the game relying on their top scorer Yousif Al Salef but he was forced to leave the pitch after picking up an injury. And since then, they struggled in front of goal as they were missing their reference point in attack.
After the match, the winners were crowned by Youth and Sports Affairs Minister Aymen Al Moayed, who was deputised by Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, representative of HM the King for Charity Works and Youth Affairs and president of the Supreme Council of Youth and Sports, to honour the champions and the runners-up as well as those who won individual awards.
Shaikh Nasser hailed Nasser 12 for achieving the same success of the previous editions, saying this would not have been accomplished without the support of His Majesty King Hamad.
He described the tournament as a national project that carries noble goals for sports and youth in the Kingdom.
“We have been keen to upgrade the tournament year-in, year-out, relying on the support we are receiving from HM the King. The tournament has passed through many stops throughout its journey and the successes we have achieved to this point are encouraging as we look forward to producing more efforts to enable our youth to showcase their talents,” Shaikh Nasser said.
“We wanted the tournament to become a home for all our sportspeople and to become a prominent national gathering for all the youth in Bahrain.”
Shaikh Nasser praised the sponsors of the tournament as well as the local media for contributing to make Nasser 12 successful.
