HEIGHTENED tensions following last week’s attacks on two oil tankers in the Gulf have intensified the need for a unified missile defence shield to protect Bahrain and its allies, according to a security expert.
The US has long advocated the rollout of such a system, but it has stalled because of “mistrust” from countries in the GCC, said Kuwait-based Gulf Monitor Group executive manager Dr Zafer Alajmi .
