THE Kingdom of Bahrain yesterday reached the summit of mixed martial arts world by topping the IMMAF-WMMAA world rankings.
Bahrain surpassed Kazakhstan, Sweden, Russia, and New Zealand with positive results in the Asian and African Open tournaments. Bahrain led the African Open, ahead of hosts South Africa, with four gold, one silver and two bronze and its fighters claimed 13 medals at the Asian Open - five gold, one silver and seven bronze.
It is only four years since Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa turned his attention to developing MMA in the Kingdom and abroad and Team Bahrain has already fulfilled one of its main objectives ahead of what promises to be a historical International Combat Week to be held in Bahrain in November.
Around 550 athletes from 60 nations are expected to gather in Bahrain for the IMMAF-WMMAA World Championships from November 9 to 16.
It will be another great opportunity for Bahrain to showcase its pivotal role in developing MMA in Bahrain and around the world.
