EIGHT students of an Indian classical dance form will make their on-stage debut performance on Friday.
Renowned Bahraini professional kathak (also an Indian classical dance form) dancer Khalil Alashar will be the chief guest at the ‘Bharatanatyam Arangetram’ to be held at the Cultural Hall, Manama, starting at 5.30pm.
The debutant dancers – Reesa Mary P, Aparna S, Adarshini A, Nandhini M, Keerthana T, Priyasruthi S, Nethra V and Aashiga G – are all disciples of Bahrain-based classical dance teacher Lekha Sasi.
Bharatanatyam is one of India’s oldest and most dynamic classical dance forms with a history of more than 2,000 years.
Vocalist Kizhakke Chakkat Gireesh Menon, veena player Vidhya Chandrasekar and mridangam (percussionist) Kalladikuruchi Hariharaakrishnan Vineeth will be flown in from India to perform at the event.
Indian School, Bahrain chairman Prince Natarajan and Indian Institute of Performing Arts director Ambilikuttan Aravindakshan Nair will be guests of honour.
