Spanish Mission, ridden by jockey Jamie Spencer and trained by David Simcock, emerged winner in the 28th edition of the Bahrain Trophy held as part of the Newmarket Racing Festival in the United Kingdom.
The winner was presented the award by Rashid Equestrian and Horse Racing Club High Committee vice-chairman Shaikh Isa bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
The race witnessed tourhg competition as Spanish Mission surpassed Nayef Road, ridden by jockey Sylvester De Sousa and owned by Emarati Mohammed Belobaida.
Shaikh Isa highlighted His Majesty King Hamad’s commitment to preserving the kingdom’s equestrian heritage and expressed gratitude to His Majesty for the continued support to the annual Bahrain Trophy race at the Newmarket Racing Festival.
Shaikh Isa praised the high level of competition that took place during the Bahrain Cup, noting the wide attendance of visitors and fans, which has added to the success of the festival each year. He added that the event, a 2600-metre Group 3 flat horse race, is one of the most prominent races in the Newmarket calendar.
He noted that the success of the annual race embodies the strength of the historic relations between Bahrain and the United Kingdom.
Shaikh Isa also highlighted the ongoing collaboration between the Supreme Committee of the Rashid Equestrian and Horse Racing Club, chaired by Shaikh Abdullah bin Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa, and the Newmarket Racecourses, which has contributed to the organisation of the Bahrain Trophy race, sponsored by Bahrain, since 1978.
Shaikh Isa was accompanied by Shaikh Sultan Al Din bin Mohammed bin Salman Al Khalifa.
