BAHRAIN suffered a heartbreaking 26-27 loss against Brazil last night in the International Handball Federation (IHF) Men’s Junior World Championship 2019, currently being held in Spain.
The score was tied at 26-apiece with just nine seconds to go, but after a timeout, Guilherme Torriani scored from the left wing to win the match for the Brazilians.
Only one second remained on the game clock when Torriani found the net, instantly sinking Bahrain’s hopes as they narrowly missed out on a golden opportunity to claim their first victory of the prestigious competition.
The painful result was Bahrain’s third successive loss in Group ‘C’ of the tournament’s preliminary round.
Ahmed Fadhul top scored for Bahrain with seven goals, while Mohamed Mohamed added another six in the losing effort. Abdulla Ali converted four goals, and Ahmed Ali along with Hasan Ali had three apiece.
Bahrain’s scorers were rounded out by Moayed Shuaib, Mahmood Mohamed and Hussain Alnajjar, who had a goal apiece.
Pedro Pacheco spearheaded the Brazilians with six goals. Torriani added five and Gabriel Reis and Ronaldo Catarino both scored four.
The Bahrainis have a rest day today and are back in action tomorrow and Monday for their final two games of the preliminaries. Tomorrow they take on Croatia, and then they next battle Kosovo.
