Riffa Sports Club have continued their domination of the opposition in the Mohammed VI Champions Cup with a 5-0 trashing of Horseed in Morocco.
Riffa, who have sealed partnership with KHK MMA, made an impressive start to the season with seven goals in the first two matches of the tournament. They have not yet conceded a goal in the event.
The Bahrain Premier League champions relied on a man-of-the-match performance from Komail Alaswad who scored a hat-trick en route to a monumental victory. Riffa now lead Group A of the preliminary round with six points.
Alaswad opened the scoring just before break through a well-taken penalty, with Riffa going to the locker room with a deserved advantage. The team had much more to offer, and it showed as two minutes after the return to the second half Sayed Redha Isa scored the second goal to give the Bahraini champions a comfortable lead.
From then on, the team started to dominate its Somalian counterparts with several chances to score until Alaswad found the net twice more, in the first 20 minutes of the second half, completing a much-deserved hat-trick.
Mahdi Abduljabbar rounded off the score to 5-0, taking Riffa closer to qualifying for the next round.
Riffa now only need a draw in the last round of the preliminary round to progress to the next stage of the competition. Ittihad Tanger and Al Zawraa are tied in second place with three points each.
Riffa take on Iraq’s Al Zawraa tomorrow, once again in Morocco, in the last game of the preliminary round.
