His Majesty King Hamad received at Sakhir Palace yesterday His Majesty the King for Charity Work and Youth Affairs representative and Supreme Council for Youth and Sport (SCYS) chairman Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa and SCYS first deputy chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
Shaikh Nasser introduced to HM the King the Bahrain national football team who won the 9th edition of the West Asian Football Federation Championship (WAFF), held recently in Iraq.
HM the King delivered a speech wherein he extended his warmest welcome and congratulations to the victorious team.
“I extend my deep appreciation to the members and staff of the team and to the Bahrain Football Association for this historic and honourable achievement that has marked another glorious moment for Bahraini football and embodied the capability of our national competences to excel and assert themselves in competitions,” HM the King said.
“Through your persistent insistence on winning the championship, you were able to present a bright image of the meaning of hard work and diligence, as did our golden young people who reached the highest levels of achievement and accomplishment.

“You succeeded in turning your participation into a national success that added a lot of joy in the hearts of the people of Bahrain. Their spontaneous and genuine feelings reflected and expressed the joy of the nation.”
HM the King also congratulated the young Bahrainis who won the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Basketball Junior Championship, West Asia Under-15 Tennis Championship, and Arab Beach Volleyball Championship.
HM the King thanked Shaikh Nasser and Shaikh Khalid for their meticulous work and personal follow-up to ensure the utmost conditions for the progress and evolvement of sports.
Bahrain Football Association (BFA) president Shaikh Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa presented to HM the King the WAFF trophy and the commemorative gifts.
Shaikh Nasser thanked HM the King for his unflinching support to the youth and sport movement which boosted Bahrain’s standing on the international sport map and yielded many achievements, including the 2019 WAFF trophy. He pledged to exert more efforts in supporting the youth and sport movement.
The national team players expressed heartfelt thanks and gratitude to HM the King for his tremendous support, pledging to continue accomplishing further achievements. They also thanked Shaikh Nasser and Shaikh Khalid for their tireless efforts and continuous encouragement to achieve honourable results.
