Riffa Sports Club progressed to the round of 32 of the Mohammed VI Cup after defeating Al Zawra’a of Iraq 1-0.
The only goal in the last Group A match was scored by Mahdi Abduljabbar. It was Riffa’s third victory in as many games.
The campaign so far has been perfect for the reigning Bahrain Premier League champions with eight goals scored and none conceded in three matches.
It is the first tournament for Riffa since the start of the groundbreaking partnership with KHK MMA and BRAVE CF which is expected to empower the club and football domestically and internationally.
Riffa have the best overall campaign in the preliminary round, surpassing Group B leaders JS Saoura of Algeria, who scored fewer goals (seven) despite winning their three matches and not conceding a goal.
The Bahraini champions will now face Olympic Safi of Morocco in a two-leg knockout match in the round of 32. The dates for the matches will be announced in the coming days.
