A REGIONAL film will begin its theatrical tour tomorrow, with screenings across Bahrain, the UAE and Kuwait.
Musk is an Emirati movie written and directed by Humaid Alsuwaidi and starring Mohammed Ahmed, Suhail Aljneibi, Dhaen Juma, and Manahel Alawadi.
It is being screened at cinemas in all three countries following its successful screening at various international film festivals.
It follows the story of Ahmed, who after giving up a promising career in museum management to attend to his ailing father, spends his days managing the family’s dying perfume business.
This sacrifice and his divorce have made him cynical which manifests itself in his relationship with his aloof 12-year-old son, Abdulrahman.
Father and son do not see eye-to-eye and it is as though they speak in different languages.
Ahmed is also rather suspicious of the return of his free-spirited sister from Europe, while his ex-wife sues to deny him visitation rights.
Musk landed its world premiere at the 15th Festival International du Film Transsaharien de Zagora in Morocco, won the Best Film Award at Al Ain Film Festival, and was showcased at the Festival International du Cinéma de la Diversité Taza in Morocco and the Jagran Film Festival in India.
It was also screened at the Emirates Short Film Festival and Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi.
Born in Abu Dhabi, Mr Alsuwaidi is an Emirati screenwriter, director and producer, who after working in a traditional office job for a few years, enrolled in the New York Film Academy in 2010.
Upon graduation, he worked on a number of short films, both on set and in post-production.
His directorial debut, Abdullah (2015), premiered at the Dubai International Film Festival.
Musk will be released at Novo Cinemas in Bahrain and its distribution is being managed by Mad Solutions, which has planned releases in more Arab countries in the near future.
