THE Bahrain youth team last night powered into the final of the 15th Arab Youth Volleyball Championship in Amman.
The Bahrainis booked their berth following a dominant three-set (25-12, 25-16, 25-15) victory over Oman at Princess Sumaya Hall in Al Hussein Youth City.
The nationals take on Egypt in the final tomorrow, starting 7pm.
The Egyptians secured their spot in the final beating Iraq 3-0 (26-24, 25-23, 25-18).
The Bahrainis will be hoping to claim their fourth title overall, and fourth in the last five editions of the competition.
The under-18 nationals were a class apart from the very start of yesterday’s game. It was a full team effort of Abdulla Mohammed, Ahmed Sadeq, Mohammed Abdulazim, Mohammed Hadi, Ali Mohammed, libero Bader Mohammed, Hussain Ali, Mohammed Jaffar, Hashim Isa, Khalil Ebrahim, Hussain Mohammed and Ali Mohammed Jawad.
The result maintained Bahrain’s unbeaten record in the competition as they claimed their fourth straight win. Oman were also previously undefeated till last night’s clash.
Egypt are also unbeaten. Classification games are scheduled for today.
Bahrain had previously won the Arab title three times, including three of the last four editions of the tournament.
Claimed
They claimed the championship in 2017 following a straight-sets win over Oman in the final. Prior to that, the national youth team had claimed the 2013 title in Tunisia and the 2011 crown in Egypt.
Along with their triumph in 2017, four Bahraini players also won individual honours. Mohammed Al Abrar was named best player, Mohammed Haroona best setter and Hassan Al Shakhoori and Mohammed Jassim best players in their positions.
