Kuwait City: A draft law setting strict regulations for owning drones is under consideration at the Kuwaiti National Assembly.
Submitted by acting speaker Isa Al Kandari, the bill seeks to restrict the possession and used of drones to certain economic, trade and sports sectors, in addition to scientific research.
The proposed legislation bans drones weighing more than 150 grammes and equipped with the Geospatial Position System (GPS) or automatic pilot.
Drones fitted with normal or themal imaging systems would also be prohibited. Licensed drones shall not fly for more than 100 metres nor shall be able to rise more than five metres above the ground. It would also be banned to load drones with any type of devices.
Violators would be jailed from three to seven years and fined up to KD100,000. Those who use drones for terrorist purposes would be jailed for life or capital punishment in case of casualties as an aggravating factor, according to Al Qabas.
