Bloomberg, a global business and financial information and news leader, opened its Capital Markets Forum today (October 2) in Abu Dhabi, aiming to bring together private and public finance sector leaders from the UAE and beyond.
Michael R Bloomberg, founder of Bloomberg L.P. and Bloomberg Philanthropies, delivered the opening keynote address at the forum.
Highlights from Michael Bloomberg’s keynote address included:
• The UAE has the power to transform the global economy and is well positioned to make a big difference in the fight against climate change; as a key player in the world’s energy economy.
• Michael Bloomberg commended the UAE government – and in particular, Minister Al Zeyoudi and the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment – for bringing together experts and other major figures to come together and find meaningful solutions in the fight against climate change.
• For Abu Dhabi to remain the 21st century financial centre it is today, it will have to continue diversifying its economy, by investing in the industries of the future, like clean energy. Clean energy is cheaper for consumers than fossil fuels and it’s a growth industry that is already creating hundreds of thousands of new jobs.
• Bloomberg has been present in the UAE for almost two decades, with the company’s footprint growing along with Dubai and Abu Dhabi’s growth as global financial centres.
• The UAE is one of Bloomberg’s largest emerging markets, with the company having more staff and clients in the country today than ever before. – TradeArabia News Service
