Dubai: A new biometric system will be launched at Dubai International Airport where passengers won't need a passport or boarding pass to travel from Dubai, officials said on Sunday.
In cooperation with Emirates Airline, the "Biometric Passenger Journey" will help ease travelling through Dubai airports, according to the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA)-Dubai.
With facial recognition technology, a passenger who is pre-screened does not have to show a passport or boarding pass from the check-in counter to the aircraft.
A pilot phase of the biometric technology using a combination of facial and iris recognition will be launched in the upcoming months, according to the GDRFA.
Biometric information of passengers will be stored in the GDRFA system for future travels.
