AN exhibition showcasing Japanese dolls will be held at the Bahrain National Museum next week.
Known as the ‘Kingdom of Dolls’, Japan enjoys a rich culture of dolls where each has its own meaning, purpose and is deeply connected to daily life.
This traditional appreciation for dolls has resulted in the belief that dolls are not only children’s toys but also works of art to be displayed and admired, resulting in the creation of unlimited styles.
The tradition of doll-making continues today as craftsmen use time-honoured methods to create traditional Japanese dolls in addition to artists who create decorative dolls.
The exhibition, The Dolls of Japan, features a distinguished selection of fine dolls including traditional performing arts, regional and creative dolls. The showcase will be open to the public from Sunday to November 13.
