UAE: Sharifa Al Ali, Fatima Ibrahim and Maha Salem are three Emirati policewomen who are part of the K9 handlers.
K9 (canine) stands for dogs that are specifically trained to assist police and other law-enforcement personnel.
They are using their three highly-trained dogs ‘Dijmala” “Falx” and “Betty” in performing their multiple security duties.
The three officers - First Sergeant Sharifa, Corporal Fatima, officer Maha - participate, along with their sniffing dogs in detecting explosives, ensuring the security during protocol events and conferences, exhibitions and forums.
The three women-only police team is also assigned to train dogs for the Dubai Police to ensure the security of VIP personalities two hours before major events kick-off.
They also took part in thwarting attempts to smuggle drugs into the UAE. Sharifa Al Ali still recalls she took part in raiding a suspicious fishing boat at sea.
The police then arrested two smugglers and seized a large number of drugs.
