MORE than 1,000 people are expected to flock to The Indian Club Bahrain tomorrow for a Disco Dandiya Night at the club’s premises in Gudaibiya.
The evening’s activities include dandiya music, dancing and entertainment by multi-talented anchor-entertainer ‘Aapka Paresh’.
Dandiya is a traditional folk dance celebration which originated as a devotional garba dance performed in honour of goddess Durga.
Also known as ‘The Sword Dance’, the dance uses traditional dandiya sticks to represent a mock fight between Durga and the demon-king Mahishasura.
The event is free for club members, while entry costs BD2 for non-members and BD1 for children with school IDs.
A number of spot prizes will be given away in addition to best dancer (male and female), best child dancer, best couple dancers, best group dancers (a maximum of six members). The event begins at 8pm.
Meanwhile, the club will host its much-awaited children’s competition, Talent Fest 2019, next month.
The event offers a platform for all Indian children living in Bahrain to showcase their talent in five categories: Literary, music, art and craft, dance and group.
Contestants will be divided into five age groups and 123 events will be held over a month.
All participants will be awarded certificates, while individual awards and trophies are also up for grabs.
