BAHRAIN got off a winning start last night in Doha in the Asian Men’s Handball Qualification Tournament for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
The nationals scored a thrilling 26-21 victory over Kuwait in a Group ‘B’ clash to go to the top of the table on goal difference.
In another Group ‘B’ match yesterday, Iran edged out Korea 28-27 in a thriller.
Bahrain take on Iran in their next match on Sunday at 6pm and complete the group stage against South Korea, at 4pm, on Tuesday.
In Group ‘A’ matches on Thursday, hosts Qatar scored an emphatic 49-14 victory over Hong Kong while Saudi Arabia got the better of India 35-24.
This event is the first step to making it to the 2020 Olympics. The winners of the Asian qualifiers book an automatic berth while the other teams will hope to have done enough to book a place in another series of qualifying competitions to be held in April next year.
