Riyadh: Women will work side by side with men at municipal councils in Saudi Arabia. The Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs has scrapped in the statute of the municipal councils which makes gender segregation mandatory.
The amended article of the law on municipalities allows male and female municipal councillors to sit together at the same table and in the same room, according to Al Watan newspaper.
Under the abrogated article 107 of the law on municipalities, women councillors had to sit in separate rooms and communicate with male members via closed circuit TV.
