A remarkable performance by Mios Macura helped Sitra defeat Al Ahli 88-80 in a Group A game of the Bahrain Basketball Association Cup at Zain Arena in Um Al Hassam yesterday.
Macura scored 34 points, including two three-pointers, three assists and four steals, as Sitra edged ahead on the back of their first-half dominance.
Sitra took the first quarter 26-11 but fell behind in the second 15-16.
The commanding start, however, gave them a 14 point advantage at half-time.
The lead proved priceless as a determined Ahli bounced back after the interval. They took the third quarter 26-19 and fell behind by just a point in the final quarter to go down by eight points.
Isa Ebrahim, with 13 points, was the only other Sitra player to touch double figures.
Ahli, on the other hand, played more as a team with four players managing to secure double figure points. Ali Baquer was the top scorer with 19 points which included five three-pointers. He was supported by Hasan Ali Alsayed with 16 points, Nasser Almosawi with 12 and Jassim Abul with 11.
Twelve teams, divided into two groups, are taking part in the championship. Group A consists of Muharraq, Al Ahli, Ettihad, Nuwaidrat, Sitra and Al Najma while Group B comprises Riffa, Manama, Samaheej, Al Hala, Bahrain Club and Isa Town.
