Bahrain national youth team scored a convincing six-wicket victory over the visiting Marylebone Cricket Club at Awali Oval yesterday.
The MCC team is visiting Bahrain as part of Awali Cricket Club’s (ACC) 80th anniversary celebrations.
They play another match tomorrow and on Saturday, both at the same venue.
The ACC is the oldest cricket club in the region, founded in 1935, while he MCC is the world’s oldest cricket club, founded in 1787.
Opting to bat first, the MCC batsmen were restricted to 196 for six in their 40 overs. Michael Thomely top scored with a 96-ball 71 and shared a 57-run opening stand with Grieg Hofbauer, who made a 46-ball 32.

The other notable contribution came from Alex Martin who made a 30-ball 33.
For the Bahrain side, Waseeq was the pick of the bowlers claiming three for 32 while Gautam bagged two for 29 and Yasir Nazeer one for 29.
Chasing a modest target, Bahrian lost two early wickets to Derbyshire fast bowler Shiv Thakor.
But captain Nazeer, later declared man-of-the-match, led from the front and steered his team to a comprehensive six-wicket victory.
Nazeer top scored with a patient 91-ball 74 (10 fours) and he was well supported by Fiaz (25-ball 27) and Ubaid (60-ball 54 not out, 6 fours, 1 six) as Bahrain cruised to victory in the 34th over.
The MCC players will conduct a coaching clinic with 60 Bahrain children at Alba Club Cricket Academy today at 5pm.
