BAHRAIN were upbeat last night ahead of today’s key clash against Saudi Arabia in a Group B match of the Gulf Cup (Khaleeji 24), starting 8pm.
The Bahraini players conducted their final training yesterday at the University of Qatar ground. Led by Portugese coach Helio Sousa, the 23-member team focused on physical as well as technical aspects during their one-hour training session .
Addressing a press conference yesterday, coach Sousa stressed on Bahrain’s readiness to take on Saudi Arabia in their second Group ‘B’ match. He said that the match is an opportunity for Bahrain to affirm their class, adding that they would focus on attack and try to score more goals.

Sousa said both teams badly need a win and hence the fans would be treated to an entertaining match. He pointed out that all matches in the group are tough, giving each team the opportunity to qualify.
Wali Al Hayyam, who was present at the press conference, said the team is upbeat ahead of today’s crucial clash.
Bahrain Football Association (BFA) vice-president for Administrative and Legal Affairs Ali bin Ahmed Al Bouainain was present at the team’s training session along with board member Mohammed Al Hammadi and secretary general Ibrahim Al Bouainain.
Al Bouainain also visited the team at Kempinski Hotel in Doha and spoke to the players as well as technical and administrative staff on the eve of the match. He wished the players success in their quest for a spot in the semi-finals. He also met Bahraini referees and linesmen who are officiating in the tournament.
In the other Group ‘B’ encounter today, Kuwait play Oman at 5pm at the same venue.
In the first round, Kuwait stunned Saudi Arabia 3-1 while Bahrain and Oman drew 0-0.
Kuwait top Group ‘B’ with three points from one match, followed by Bahrain and Oman with one point each while Saudi Arabia are yet to score a point.
