A DANCE recital featuring Bahraini Kathak performer Khalil Al Ashar along with his pupils will be held at the Kerala Catholic Association auditorium in Segaiya this weekend.
‘Aarambh’ (The Beginning) on Friday at 7pm is the first performance of Mr Al Ashar’s students at his School of Kathak in Bahrain, Tatkaar.
The school runs bi-weekly sessions at its premises in Sanad, Hoora and Juffair.
Mr Al Ashar, the only Bahraini exponent in the form of Indian ballet known as Kathak, along with
Bharatanatyam exponent Rupesh K C from Bangalore, India will also present a duet at the event.
The 28-year-old from Sanad is a full-time Kathak dancer and a disciple of Prachi Dixit trained in Los Angeles.
He has performed throughout the US and in major cities of India including New Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata, among others.
A master’s aspirant in Kathak from Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed University, Pune, Mr Al Ashar is also a visiting faculty member at Nupur Academy LA in Los Angeles, and he is currently training with Guru Murali Mohan Kalvakalva from Bangalore.
Meanwhile, Mr Rupesh, specialised in Bharatantayam, Bollywood, Indian contemporary and folk dance forms, is also an actor and theatre artist with more than 25 productions to his credit.
