A winner of scores of international awards, His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa has added another accolade to his fame.

Last week, he was announced the winner of Flame of Peace Award, by a Vienna-based organisation for his unreserved contributions towards regional and international peace

This is a congratulatory message similar to the ones I extended to our dear Premier in the past.

All the awards received by the Premier were from politically neutral organisations located in different parts of the world ranging from Geneva to New York and Vienna.

This reflects the fact that real development indicators such as economic, social and political growth were used as parameters to measure the achievements of the Premier before conferring the awards.

In those respects, the Premier has simply outsmarted other contestants.

If one is constantly following the Premier’s speeches and weekly meetings with relevant officials, he can easily make out that the words “unity, security and economic prosperity” dominate his opening remarks.

He has always stood for GCC unity, and this has helped Bahrain  overcome destabilising attempts which were sponsored by Iran.

The Flame of Peace is a well-deserved award for the Premier.

The world community has understood his devotions and unreserved commitment towards  state-building efforts, which are reflected in the pace at which Bahrain has developed and that too within a short span of time.

The many ingredients that easily make the Premier ahead of others are his statesmanship, vision and wisdom. Under his leadership, the government has signed mutual security agreements and economic deals placing Bahrain at the centre of regional development. He has also always upheld the policy of non-intervention in the internal matters of other countries.

No other leader in the Arab or Muslim world would have won international accolades of this magnitude.

I expect more honours to come for Bahrain and the Premier in near future. It is not mere wishful thinking, but his leadership qualities make him the best among the candidates for any international awards.
