PORTUGUESE Fado singer Liana takes to the stage at La Fontaine Centre of Contemporary Art this weekend.
She will showcase her varied repertoire accompanied by Portuguese and classical guitars on Friday from 8pm.
Liana is one of Portugal’s leading Fado singers. She has several albums to her name and played Fado diva Amalia Rodrigues in Portugal’s most successful musical to date.
Her beautiful, resonant voice and passionate delivery resulted in performances with critically acclaimed world music band The Stockholm Lisboa Project and now she will perform for Bahrain crowds under the stars at La Fontaine.
Originating in Portugal, Fado, which roughly translates as fate, is a mesmerising, poetic musical filled with emotion that has become extremely popular around the world in recent years.
It is a music genre that can be traced back to the 1820’s in Portugal.
Although the origins are difficult to trace, today Fado is commonly regarded as simply a form of song which can be about anything, but must follow a certain traditional structure.
