THE West Asian Federation Football Championship for Under-18 Women will kick off today at the Khalifa Sports City Stadium.
The event, which concludes on January 6, is being hosted by the Bahrain Football Federation with seven teams in the fray.
The teams are divided into two groups with Group ‘A’ comprising Lebanon, Iraq, the UAE and Jordan, while Group ‘B’ consists of hosts Bahrain, Palestine and Kuwait.
In the opening match today, Iraq take on the UAE at 2.30pm while Lebanon clash with Jordan at 5.30pm while hosts Bahrain meet Kuwait at 8.30pm.
The top two teams in each group qualify for the semi-finals.
Toured
A delegation from the West Asian Football Federation yesterday toured the Khalifa Sports City Stadium and were satisfied with the preparations made for the event.
A technical meeting was also held yesterday headed by tournament director Hassan Ismail and attended by representatives of all the seven participating teams and the West Asian Football Federation.
