Manama: UAE-based Samsung Gulf Electronics, the regional division of the Korean consumer electronics major, yesterday announced the seventh generation flagship models of its Galaxy family – the S7 and S7 edge – will be available at major retailers in Bahrain from Monday.

The devices were unveiled in partnership with Bin Hindi Informatics, the authorised distributor of Samsung’s mobile and IT products in Bahrain, at an event in the Ritz-Carlton Bahrain.

The recommended retail price for Galaxy S7 is BD260, and for the Galaxy S7 edge it is BD290.

A statement said they feature a “refined design, more advanced camera, streamlined software functionality and unparalleled connectivity to a galaxy of products, services, and experiences”.

“Class-leading camera technology, a longer-lasting battery, cutting edge processors and optimisation for gaming are just some features which will make these the most innovative smartphones you’ve ever owned,” said Samsung Gulf Electronics head of information technology and mobile division Tarek Sabbagh.

Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge introduce the first Dual Pixel camera on a smartphone, delivering “brighter and sharper images, even in low light”.

Mr Sabbagh said Samsung has seen its market share in Bahrain increase from 38pc in 2014 to 48pc last year.

The flagship phones are available in three colours – black, gold and silver.

Samsung said the camera also has a brighter lens with wider aperture, bigger pixel, faster shutter speed and a more accurate autofocus.

Motion Panorama, a new camera mode, brings movement to traditional panoramic photos.

The 5.1-inch Galaxy S7 and 5.5-inch Galaxy S7 edge are constructed with 3D glass and metal and have a new Always-On Display, with IP68 water and dust resistance. Edge UX, the advanced edge experience available on Galaxy S7 edge, offers short-cuts to email, selfie mode, panorama mode or third party applications.

Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge deliver fast wired and wireless charging technology.

Additionally, the hybrid SIM card tray allows users to insert a micro SD card for up to 200GB of additional storage and in some select countries, the tray can be used with a dual SIM card.

Samsung said it has also made significant hardware and software updates to optimise gaming performance – including a more powerful processor, bigger battery capacity and internal cooling system.

Game Launcher, a new add-on for gamers, allows users to manage battery consumption and minimise notifications.

Additionally, users can record their gaming experience or share their screen to play with others. Paired with Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge, Vulkan API gives users the ability to play high-performance graphic games with lower battery consumption.

Samsung Gulf Electronics has also announced the launch of the Galaxy Entertainer application in conjunction with the launch of the devices.

Under the partnership, consumers in the Gulf region get more than 1,000 ‘buy one get one free’ offers at restaurants, cafes, premium spas, leisure attractions, golf courses and luxury hotels.

The combined value of the benefits (inclusive of international locations) is estimated to be over BD40,000 worth of savings.
