Bahrain will today take on Iraq in the AFC U-23 Football Championship.
The Group ‘A’ match will kick off at 1.15pm Bahrain time at Thammasat Stadium in Bangkok.
In the other Group ‘A’ match today, Thailand will play Iraq at 4.15pm.
Bahrain lost their first match 5-0 to Thailand while Iraq and Australia drew 1-1. Thailand top Group A with three points from one win, followed by Iraq and Australia with one point each, while Bahrain are at the bottom.
Bahrain will have no other option but to win their crucial match against Iraq and bag three points to revive hopes of booking a berth in semi-finals.
The top three teams in the championship will qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
Led by coach Samir Chammam, Bahrain took on Iraq last September in two friendly matches which ended in a win and a defeat for each team.
The 23-member squad comprises Ammar Mohammed, Youssef Habeeb, Anwar Ahmed, Hussein Jameel, Ahmed Fadhel, Hamad Shamsan, Ahmed Boughamar, Hamza Al Jabn, Salim Adel, Sayyed Mohammed Amine, Hassan Al Karani, Ahmed Saleh, Ahmed Al Sheroogui, Mohammed Marhoon, Abdulaziz Khalid, Mohammed Al Hardan, Abbas Al Asfoor, Abdulrahman Al Ahmadi, Jassim Khalif, Adnan Fawaz, Hassan Madan, Faisal Ibrahim and Sayyed Hashem Isa.
The team held yesterday their last training session prior to today’s crucial match.
