Kuwait City: The Kuwaiti authorities have unveiled a plan to construct a new metro system, linking the business centre in downtown Kuwait City and other different directions.
The Metropolitan Rapid Transit System Project (KMRT) will be built over five phases stretching over 160 kilometres, and will have 68 stations along three lines, according to the plan.
The first phase includes a 50km-long railway stretching from Kuwait City to Kuwait International Airport, with 27 new stations, 30 per cent of which will be underground with two underground stations and heavy duty maintenance warehouse.
The Public Authority for Roads and Transport (PART) said that the first phase will cover areas in several governorates and include nine stations within Kuwait’s business centre.
PART officials, however, have not provided a timetable for the project’s execution, according to Kuwait Times.
