Bahrain’s national handball team will look to continue their winning ways today in the 19th Asian Handball Championship when they take on Iran at Shaikh Saad Al Abdullah Sports Hall Complex in Kuwait City.
The Bahrainis won their first game against New Zealand 45-16, and after Iran beat the Kiwis 53-21 yesterday, both Bahrain and Iran are assured of a place in the tournament’s Main Round.
Today’s game, scheduled for a 1pm start, will decide the team that moves forward as Group A winners.
This ensuing main round will feature eight teams in all, to be divided into another two groups and another single round-robin. The top two then march on to the semi-finals, scheduled for January 25. The final match will then be held on January 27 along with the bronze medal game.
Bahrain’s 19-member team includes players Hussein Alsayyad, Mohammed Abdul Hussein, Jassim Al-Salatna, Mohammed Mirza, Mohammed Habib, Ali Mirza, Mohammed Abdulridha, Hassan Al-Samaheeji, Ahmed Al-Maqabi, Mahdi Saad, Hassan Shehab, Ali Eid, Bilal Basham, Hussein Mahfoudh, Abdulla Ali, Ahmed Jalal, Mahmoud Hussein, Mohammed Habeeb Nasser and Abdulla Zaimur.
The delegation also includes Bahrain Handball Association chairman Ali Isa Ishaqi, board member Ismail Baqer, administrator Ahmed Al Najim, national coach Aron Kristjansson, assistant coach Ahmed Mansour and other staff.
