A CANADIAN romance drama, Gabrielle, will be screened at the Bahrain Cinema Club, Juffair, at 7pm tonight.
It is the story of a young woman with Williams Syndrome who participates in a choir of developmentally disabled adults, and begins a romantic relationship with her choirmate.
The 2013 film features a cast from a real choir for people with disabilities, with the heroine, Gabrielle Marion-Rivard, being a real Williams Syndrome patient.
Williams Syndrome is a genetic disorder that affects many parts of the body. Facial features frequently include a broad forehead, short nose and full cheeks, an appearance that has been described as “elfin”.
The film won the Audience Award at Locarno International Film Festival and was nominated for the Best Canadian Feature Film Award at the Toronto International Film Festival.
