MUHARRAQ and Manama booked their tickets last night to the semi-finals of His Majesty the King’s Cup in soccer.
Muharraq secured their berth following a 3-1 win over Galali yesterday in the second leg of their quarter-final match-up, while Manama were 2-0 winners over Busaiteen in their head-to-head in the last eight.
Muharraq’s triumph gave them an aggregate of 8-1 following the 5-0 drubbing they enjoyed in the opening game; while Manama came away with a 5-1 aggregate, having scored a 3-1 result in the first leg.
Both of last night’s games were played at Shaikh Ali bin Mohammed Al Khalifa Stadium.
Three different players were on target for Muharraq with Hussain Jameel scoring in only the second minute, Ismaeel Abdullatif in the 43rd and Tunisian professional Mohammed Moncer in the 51st. Galali’s consolation strike was supplied by Abdulaziz Khaled in the 76th minute.
Meanwhile, Issa Moussa scored for Manama in the 70th minute while Brazilian professional Marcio Barbosa Vieira Junior added Manama’s second in the 77th. Both goals were fired in from close range as Manama were able to find holes in Busaiteen’s defence.
With their results, Muharraq and Manama now clash with one another in the final four.
The other will be between the winners of the other quarter-finals between Riffa and East Riffa and Al Hidd and Shabab.
Both match-ups are currently deadlocked, with the Riffa derby tied at 2-2 and Hidd level with Shabab 1-1. The second leg between Hidd and Shabab is scheduled for tonight at 6pm.
