Riyadh: Over 700 Saudis have been evacuated from China, including the city of Wuhan, which is considered the epicentre of the novel coronavirus.
"The overall number of Saudi expatriates living in China tops 800 – of whom 90% have already left the country," said Saudi Ambassador to Beijing Turki Al Madhi.
In a statement to Sabq, he said that the Saudi expatriate community includes 482 students and their families have been evacuated from China without any suspected infections among them.
He urged other Saudi compatriots who are still in China to contact the embassy, or any other Saudi consulate for assistance.
The Saudi expatriate community includes students with scholarships, self-supported students and businesses who are running their factories and living in China.
The diplomat said he has been running the embassy’s work from his home over the past two weeks and stressed the role of the cultural attaché office and the consulates in Hong Kong and Guangzhou.
The embassy and consulates have booked tickets for students and facilitated their evacuation from China.
