BAHRAIN Karate Centre yesterday clinched one silver and three bronze medals in the Fifth Arab Clubs Women’s Games in Sharjah.
Rahma Omar Al Abbassi won silver in the under-50kg category while the bronze medals were claimed by Asrar Ali Ahmed (under-61kg), Noora Mohammed Hassan (under-68kg) and Sara Siyadi (above-68kg).
Fatima Ali Flamerzi put up a fine performance but bowed out at the preliminary stages.
Bahrain’s delegation president Shaikha Hayat bint Abdulaziz Al Khalifa took part in the prize-giving ceremony.
She praised Bahraini players for their outstanding performance in the singles competitions.
Seven clubs alongside Bahrain Karate Centre are taking part in the karate competitions which conclude today.
In archery, Bahrain’s Mariam Isa Najma made it to the finals where she faces Iraqi Randa Saad Al Mashhadani while her compatriot Sara Abdulrahman Marzooq clashes with Saudi Arabia’s Sara Sami Salloom for second and third places.
Bharain’s Mariam Isa Salah bowed out in the second round following a defeat to her compatriot Mariam Najm while Soha Khalfallh Shaikh lost to Randa Mashhadani.
Bahrain’s archery team qualified for the finals defeating UAE’s Abu Dhabi Club. The Bahrainis take on Sharjah Women’s Sports Club in the final.
Singles and team finals will take place at 9am Bahrain time today.
In volleyball, Bahrain’s Al Ahli suffered a 25-12, 25-15, 25-8 defeat at the hands of Algeria’s Petroleum Group team in the tournament opener.
The Bahrainis take on UAE’s Al Wasl at today at 12noon Bahrain time.
