FARIS Al Toobli rallied from a set down to beat Shadi Hallel in a three-set thriller yesterday to book a place in the semi-finals of the boys under-14 section of the 25th BBK Juniors Open Tennis Championship at Bahrain Tennis Club in Juffair.
Faris lost the first set 4-6 but bounced back to win the second by the same score and then reserved his best for the tie-breaker to tame a battling Shadi 10-7.
Two other quarter-finals also went the distance with Jaber Abdul Aal also coming from a set down to edge out Ali Darion 4-6, 6-4, 10-5 while Rohan Mukerjee also had to dig deep to pip Isa Al Qattan 6-4, 2-6, 10-3.
Raj Singh, by contrast, cleared the quarter-final hurdle in straight sets beating Zayaan Siddiqi 6-3, 7-6(6).
The girls under-12 quarter-finals were all straight set affairs.
Leanne Sinocruze sailed past Mariam Ali 6-1, 6-0, Lara Nabil routed Shevani Vinod 6-1, 6-2, Yarah Aboumir got the better of Jood Makhuen 6-3, 6-4 and Anushree Padhi tamed Bishaka Bhakuni 6-4, 6-4.
