RIYADH: A Tornado warplane that belongs to the Arab Coalition crashed in Yemen’s Al Jawf, the Saudi Press Agency quoted the coalition’s spokesperson Colonel Turki Al Maliki as saying yesterday.
The Royal Saudi Air Force plane crashed early on Friday during a mission near Yemeni government forces’ units.
The coalition supporting the legitimate government in Yemen said that its forces launched a search and rescue operation for the warplane.
It said a possibility of collateral damages among the civilians in the area of the rescue and search operation has been reported.
According to Al Arabiya sources, preparations are underway to transfer the wounded civilians to Saudi Arabia for treatment.
The sources said the Iranian-backed Houthi militia used the civilians as human shields in the area of the rescue and search operation.
Separately, Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud told a security conference in Munich, Germany that Riyadh was still committed to back-channel peace talks with the Houthis., despite a recent increase in violence in the five-year conflict.
“It’s making progess. We have seen some deterioration recently, but we are committed to moving it forward.”
