Riyadh: The Saudi General Directorate of Passports has banned expatriates from travelling to Iran.
The ban was imposed as part of pre-emptive measures being undertaken to prevent an outbreak of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
“The entry of non-Saudi travelers who have previously been in Iran shall be allowed only after the expiration of a period that exceeds the maximum limit of the incubation period of the virus – that is 14 days after their departure from Iran”, said the directorate in a statement posted on Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
The directorate also announced that Saudi citizens who violate the travel ban to Iran will be quarantined for 14 days.
It warned that expatriates living in Saudi who violate the ban and travel to Iran would not be allowed to return to the Kingdom.
It urged all those coming to Saudi Arabia to inform the Passport Officer about their presence in Iran during the two weeks preceding their arrival to the country.
