BAHRAIN’S inspired run came to a heartbreaking end yesterday in the ACC Men’s West Region T20 Tournament in Muscat.
Having qualified to the semi-finals through the skin of their teeth beating Qatar by six wickets in their last group match on Tuesday to top Group ‘A’, Bahrain seemed to have run out of ammunition yesterday in the semi-final against Kuwait.
Bahrain won the toss and opted to field, a decision they were to rue soon as Kuwait went on a rampage and raced to a formidable 210 for four in their 20 overs with Rajiva De Silva (67) and Usman Patel (58) the main scorers while M Amin (32) and A Ashraf (45*) were the other main contributors.
In reply, Bahrain could not mount a reasonable challenge and were bundled out for 123 in 17 overs with F Ahmed (30) the top scorer while M Ansar (3-27) and M Nawfer (4-23) were the successful bowlers for Kuwait.
Kuwait’s De Silva was the man-of-the-match.
In the other semi-final, the unbeaten UAE continued to their impressive run defeating Qatar by 28 runs to book a berth in today’s final against Kuwait.
In a low scoring match, the UAE batted first and were bowled out for 122 in 18.4 overs. But they bounced back to bowl out Qatar for 94 in 20 overs.
UAE’s Mohammed Siddique was the man-of-the-match for his figures of four for 12.
On Tuesday, the Bahrain crickets proved their true potential when it mattered the most.
With hosts Oman having beaten Maldives in the first match of the day, it all came down to Bahrain needing to win the match in 15 overs after having restricted Qatar to a modest 106 to book a berth in the semi-final.
Further more, they needed to reach the target in 12 overs to top the group and avoid meeting unbeaten UAE in the semi-finals.
Bahrain achieved both in style as man-of-the-match Sarfaraz Ali (43) and Ammad Uddin (41*) led the way.
Ealrlier, Abdul Majid was the pick of Bahraini bowlers claiming four wickets for 23 runs.
