I have just returned from our annual ski trip. Why we spend a fortune to travel to a very cold place and throw ourselves off a mountain I have never quite understood, but still go every year.
This year our son decided to learn how to snowboard. Why someone who is a perfectly good skier capable of taking on most black runs goes and spends money being taught how to fall on to his bottom in a variety of ways is another thing I fail to understand.
There are many things I fail to understand such as why do non-meat eaters feel the need to make vegan burgers or vegetarian bacon?
Why can’t they just make a bean and nut splodge or a tofu blob. Why do governments spend money sending useless rockets to the moon when there are many in their country who do not have health, education or sanitation facilities?
Why do poor people vote for rich politicians who’s agenda is to cut public spending?
Why does the Western media have such a fascination with untalented thick individuals just because they behave crassly on some stupid reality TV show? People with real talent struggle to be heard.
The political spectrum goes from Fascist right to Communist left, none of which is a desirable way to run a country.
In between these two poles you have the people who would like to run a country in a decent common sense way and they are called Liberals.
Why then do perfectly rational Americans use the word liberal with disdain and contempt almost using it as a swear word? Do they want to be ruled by the Fascist right or Commie left?
(Actually I think I know the answer to that one, it is orange).
Why are we ruining the world’s economy and creating serious hardship for millions trying to put a virus back in the bottle when we know it is not a serious threat to life?
Protect the elderly and the babies, yes, but let the rest of us get back to normal and get the factories open again. Provide tissues.
The answer to most of the questions I don’t understand is of course politics.
The politicians charged with ruling the country usually have more mercenary interests than the greater good.
If a politician is asked to ban guns to stop mass shootings but he has a gun factory in his constituency then the needs of his electorate will take precedence over the needs of the whole.
All politicians should be made to take the Spock oath when swearing in. They should be made to promise to put the needs of the many before the needs of the few or the one.
Perhaps that is what the planet needs, to be taken over by technically superior aliens who force us to live our lives in a nice way with love and harmony, peace and goodwill to all.
The human race would hate that.
