Brazilian drug trafficker gets 7 years jail, fined QR200,000

GDN Online Desk

Doha: A Brazilian trafficker was sentenced to seven years in jail and fined QR200,000 for attempting to smuggle 2 kilogrammes of cocaine.

The 3rd instance of the Criminal Court convicted the Brazilian smuggler and ordered his immediate deportation on serving his prison term.

A customs officer became suspicious of the passenger on his arrival at the Hamad International Airport, aboard a Brazilian plane on his way to Egypt.

He led him from the transit area and frisked him, leading to the discovery of the drugs which were under his clothes.

He admitted to carrying the drug but claimed he was using the cocaine personally, denying any intention of trafficking.

The Public Prosecution charged him with drug using and trafficking and referred him to the criminal court which convicted him.
