Schools pay tribute to top Indian jurist

Bahrain: Indian schools in Bahrain celebrated the 125th birth anniversary of Dr Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar, known as the father of the Indian Constitution, yesterday.

More than 600 students from seven schools took part in the event, held under the patronage of the Indian Embassy, at the Asian School.

Indian Ambassador Alok Kumar Sinha was chief guest at the ceremony which was also attended by First Secretary Ram Singh, Second Secretary Anand Prakash, Indian Community Relief Fund chairman Bhagwan Asarpota, Asian School chairman Joseph Thomas, principals of the schools and prominent dignitaries.

The celebration featured documentaries, plays and musical and dance performances.

The schools which took part included Ibn Al Haytham Islamic School, The Asian School, New Millennium School, The Indian School, New Indian
School, Al Noor International School and Bahrain Indian School.

Competitions based on Dr Ambedkar’s life were held with the best three of two categories from each school were awarded trophies by the embassy.

Mr Sinha also distributed prizes to the winners.

Posters made by students of the Asian School on Dr Ambedkar were displayed in the school auditorium.
