Ombudsman probes assault claim

Manama: Allegations that a woman was assaulted inside an Interior Ministry department are being investigated by the ministry Ombudsman and the Public Prosecution’s Special Investigation Unit (SIU), it
was announced yesterday.

It follows claims on social media and authorities are urging the alleged victim, as well as anyone with information, to come forward.

“The Ombudsman has issued in a statement that, in co-operation with the SIU, it has followed claims that were posted on some websites that an anonymous woman was assaulted inside one of the ministry’s departments,” said a statement posted on the Ombudsman’s website yesterday.

“It added that it has launched an investigation into the claims to verify the information and determine the truth of the claims which were made during a recorded interview.

“The Ombudsman has requested the woman, and anyone with information, to come forward with their testimonies or any details about the incident to help gathering information for the investigation and their privacy will be ensured.”
