Blast Kills Policeman

Manama: A policeman was killed in a terrorist attack on a security patrol in Karbabad village last night.

The Interior Ministry announced on its Twitter account that the Molotov cocktail attack at 6pm also left two other on-duty policemen seriously injured.

An investigation was launched to identify the suspects and bring them to justice. The policemen were securing roads and protecting property in the village, the ministry said.

Anyone with information has been urged to call the police hotline on 80008008 with all calls treated anonymous. Images circulating online show a police patrol vehicle ablaze and sources identified the policeman, who was killed, as Mohammed Naveed.

Foreign Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa condemned the attack.

“The terrorist attack on policemen was a clear response and shows the true face of who the Islamic Ummah condemned in Istanbul,” he said on his Twitter account.

He was referring to the 13th Islamic Summit of the Organisation of Islamic Co-operation in Istanbul, Turkey, which ended on Friday.

The GDN reported yesterday that leaders from more than 50 Muslim nations accused Iran of supporting terrorism and interfering in the internal affairs of regional states. The summit also condemned Hizbollah for its terrorist acts and its support of groups and organisations trying to destabilise Arab countries, especially Bahrain, Kuwait, Syria and Yemen.

Meanwhile, a number of MPs said the terrorist act coincided with the final communique issued by the summit stressing Iran’s role in disrupting Bahrain’s security. The execution was carried out by Iran’s cells in Bahrain on its directives, they said.
