Abu Dhabi: Sharjah police arrested twenty Pakistanis for cheating on people and conning them out of their money through empty promises.
The suspects formed a gang and started calling people to make them believe that they had won big money prizes worth AED200,000 and an iPhone from Etisalat.
Sharjah Police Criminal Investigation deputy director Lieutenant-Colonel Faisal bin Nassar said that said the gang members asked their victims to send them prepaid phone credit worth AED5,000 to AED10,000 to win their hoax money prizes.
The suspects rented two flats in the district of Al-Nahda and used many mobile phones with different numbers to cheat people and con them out of their numbers before getting rid of their SIMs so as not to be tracked by the police.
A CID unit raided their flats and caught them red-handed in possession of mobile phones and SIM cards, in addition to cash.
The suspects admitted to conning people and selling the phone credits that they send them at cheaper rates. They will be referred to the Public Prosecution to face charges before standing trial.
