Leaders Al Hidd were held to a 1-1 draw by second-placed Muharraq in a 12th-round match last night as the Nasser bin Hamad Bahrain Premier League resumed after a four-month suspension due to the Covid-19 outbreak.
Hidd’s Mamdoo Drami scored the opening goal of the match, played at Shaikh Ali bin Mohammed Stadium in Arad, in the second minute of stoppage time before the first half.
Muharraq’s attempts to net an equaliser were rewarded 15 minutes after resumption when Thiago struck following an outstanding attack.
In another match, played at Al Ahli Stadium in Zinj, Al Ahli outplayed Al Hala 3-0.
Both teams’ attempts to score were foiled in the first half, which ended goalless. Ahli had to wait for over 20 minutes in the second half to open scoring through Qotbaddin. Ernst extended their lead converting a penalty in the 72nd minute and Jassim Al Shaikh netted the third goal in the final minute of the match.
Meanwhile, at Khalifa Sports City Stadium in Isa Town, Riffa displayed a solid performance against Manama, beating them 3-1.
Komail Al Aswad converted a penalty in the 19th minute to get Riffa going and they scored another goal in the first half through Sayed Hashim Isa in the 43rd minute. Isa struck again in the seventh minute after resumption to keep Riffa in control of the proceedings.
Sayed Hussain Al Alawi scored the only goal for Manama in the 86th minute.
Hidd managed to maintain their two-point lead, totalling 29 points, compared to 27 for second-placed Muharraq.
Riffa moved up temporarily to the third place with 22 points, while the tally of sixth-placed Manama stood at 15 points.
The situation of Hala became more complicated with five points at the bottom while Al Ahli increase their tally to 14 points.
The matches were played in empty stadiums amid mandatory precautionary measures undertaken by the Bahrain Football Association, based on the recommendations of the National Taskforce for Combating Coronavirus.
