Dubai: Two men and a woman have been referred to the Dubai Court of First Instance for posing as security guards in a government entity and robbing a man of his watch worth Dh3,500.
The three African defendants attacked their countryman who was visiting the emirate, slapped him in the face and robbed him while he was walking in the Gold Souk at night, Deira Prosecution head Khalid Al Ameri said.
During his walk, the man was stopped by the defendants, who alleged that he had Dh1,800 in outstanding traffic fines that he needed to pay for renting the car of the first defendant, Gulf News reported.
“The victim asked the defendant to show him proof about the traffic fines but they refused. One of the defendants threatened to harm the victim if he didn’t pay the fines,” Prosecutor Al Ameri said in a statement.
Then the wife of the first defendant came forward asking him to pay the money, she then slapped him, stole his watch and escaped.
“One of the defendants told the victim that he is a security guard and showed him an ID belonging to a government entity.”
The accused were charged with robbery, threatening and posing as security guards.
