Al Hidd clinched the Nasser bin Hamad Bahrain Premier League title after defeating Busaiteen 2-0 in the 18th and final round last night.
Last night’s victory took Hidd’s points tally to 41, edging out Muharraq by just one point. Riffa, who have played 17 matches, are third with 37 points.
This is Hidd’s second Premier League title, after having triumphed in the 2015-16 season.
Hidd, who had a sensational season winning 13 of the 18 matches, put in another dominant performance last night at the Shaikh Ali bin Mohammed Al Khalifa Stadium in Arad. Their first goal was scored by Jasser Hamad in the 45th minute and substitute Mamou Trami extended the lead in the 75th minute.
Muharraq’s 1-0 victory against Manama at Al Ahli Stadium in Mahooz last night failed to cheer them up as their title hopes had rested on a draw or defeat for Hidd against Busaiteen.
The lone goal of the match was scored by Thiago in the 55th minute.
In the third match of the night, Al Ahli defeated Al Shabab 2-0 to ensure their spot in the Premier League next season.
Al Shabab, along with Al Hala, have been relegated to the second division.
Hidd will now have a chance to secure double crown when they take on Muharraq in the King Cup final on Monday. The match is scheduled to kick off at 6.30pm.
Meanwhile, an open bus celebration for the title winners, planned for today, has been cancelled. The celebration ceremony, however, will take place as scheduled.
